US Elections 2013

It was a busy night for US politics last night with various elections occurring across the country. The most significant events were probably...
The re-election of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Although the state has traditionally voted Democrat, voters were impressed by the Governor's record, particularly with how he dealt with the clear up of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and his bi-partisan political approach. Christie is now being tipped as a possible Republican candidate for the 2016 elections.
The election of Terry McAuliffe as Governor of Virginia is also significant as it was an extremely close election - the Democrat won with just 1% of the vote (18,000 votes). His opponent was heavily backed by the Tea Party and major Republican figures so his defeat could be seen as an embarrassment for the GOP.
