12 C 1: Continue with your presentations on the Economy-remember you will be presenting them next Wednesday.

12 C 2: Complete 2 mind maps one on Ordinary Revenue and one on Extra Ordinary revenue- you should have done one of these already. Then answer the following question- Was Henry ruthlessly efficient or just greedy?- there is information in your textbook to answer this question.

8N: Complete the front page (that we usually fill in after we have completed work on a particular monarch) on Mary- was she a Catholic or Protestant- what religious changes did she introduce?
Complete a one page biography on Queen Elizabeth I. Include the following information:
- when did she reign?
-Brief information about her background.
-What religious changes did she introduce?

John Guy

John Guy's website has been mentioned before on Nonsuch HP. It includes this article on historians' views on Elizabeth and politics which is particularly useful for Year 13s gathering interpretations. There are also notes on Elizabeth and religion, the mid-tudor crisis and the role of faction amongst others.

Year 12s will find useful articles on Henry VII's reputation and foreign policy plus the significance of Wolsey, his domestic and foreign policies, and his fall.

Snow Work

If the weather worsens and school is cancelled again next week please check the blog for information from your teachers on work that needs to be done. However, whatever instructions you get, please use your initiative and find something relevant to your course to read or do from your textbook or other suitable materials.

HISTORY: Please can my Year 12 class complete mindmaps both on extraordinary and ordinary revenue- they must do both now, rather than just one. Pages 100-107.
Using page 107-108 please answer the question ‘Was Henry unnecessarily greedy or just ruthlessly efficient?’

CT: Unit one Section A exam will be on Thursday 14th January, and then on Monday 18th January they will do the Unit 1 test Section B.

Anne Boleyn at Hogwarts?

This post comes from the Anne Boleyn Society's webpage. Apparently the portrait on the right is of Miss B. The society puts itself about as the guardian of her reputation and is not impressed by any suggestions of witchcraft. There are some other interesting things to find here, including a Musical Section. Have a good weekend!

Who's Who in Tudor History

This is a useful site that allows you to keep track of the main figures in Tudor history, showing in particular how their titles and job descriptions changed over time. It comes from www.tudorhistory.org which I have added to the Useful Websites section (It also has a Tudor Blog)

Thomas Paine

Here is an interesting article on Thomas Paine, who died 200 years ago this week. He was born in Norfolk and moved to America on the advice of Benjamin Franklin. He wrote a pamphlet simply known as "Common Sense" in 1776 which argued for the immediate separation of the American colonies from the "mother country". It was hugely influential and the Declaration of Independence followed soon afterwards. His books "The Rights of Man" and "The Age of Reason" were also very influential, particularly in France. However, he died in obscurity (only 6 people turned up to his funeral) but his reputation has now been restored - he was even quoted in Barack Obama's inauguration speech.

PS: William Cobbett tried to restore Paine's reputation by digging up his body in order to give him a more dignified funeral back in England. Unfortunately his body was lost en route and his final resting place is now unknown.
