New map of Africa


The map of Africa changed this weekend with the creation of a new country - Southern Sudan - after years of struggle. There has been conflict between the northern and southern regions of Sudan for over 50 years, and 2 million people died in the most recent conflict which ended in 2005. The Guardian meanwhile has published this excellent interactive map charting the changing history of Africa since 1900, and has also produced a new map of the world which you can download here as a pdf or play with it in Prezi format below.

  1. Thanks for the new map with Southern Sudan. Hate to tell you its pretty wrong though in one other area----Zimbabwe hasn't been called Rhodesia since 1980.....
