Race and Religion in the USA

Two great articles from the Economist here, one about the change in the nature of religious observance by the Latino community which may have political connotations and the other about a summer camp for atheists who make up only 1 in 12 of the population, a reflection of the religious nature of US politics and society.
Also an article here about Obama's recent speech to the NAACP which aimed to raise the aspirations of young black people.

  1. wow that's really strange!

    'cleanliness is next to godlessness'

there shouldn't really be an athiest camp, atheist parents can just send their kids to non-religious sumemr camps, not necessarily camps for atheists

  2. Richard Dawkins is funding the UK equivalent of Camp Quest this summer, but the difference in media coverage seems to suggest that the UK one will be more 'militant' than the US one. According to the Telegraph UK children will be taught about evolution and how religion can hinder moral progress, while the US camp seems to place a greater emphasis on open-mindedness and philosophical scepticism.

Oh and a great headline from the Times: "Dawkins sets up kids' camp to groom atheists". I love how they manage to make it sound like a form of sexual abuse.
