Election fever

Gordon Brown has called it at last for the 6th of May. Some fantastic sites to browse on the Internet and lots of great information. Channel 4 has done some interesting comparison on the differences between the parties and on the possible effects of Facebook on the election, see here. The BBC have a very comprehensive site as usual with a very handy comparison between the parties on constitutional reform and civil liberties here and a swingometer. The Times has a great map here on which you can look up each constituency and which party the Times think it will go to - take note, they think Sutton & Cheam will go to the Conservatives. There are probably a wealth of excellent websites, so do recommend any you have found that could be helpful.

  1. Despite the lack of variety in her wardrobe (in her election leaflets at least), I don't really have anything against Philippa Stoud personally, only the party she belongs to.

As Tory PPCs go, she'll probably make quite a good MP. She seems to be honest, hard-working and passionate about many issues, especially social justice which is noticeably lacking elsewhere in the Conservative party.

In her leaflets she keeps drawing attention to how positive her campaign is, and says that's down to her conviction that politics should be clean and free from smear tactics...

...that and the fact that Paul Burstow has one of cleanest records in Westminster, has never abused his expenses and has a reputation for being one of London's hardest working MPs.

    Just saying :)

  2. She was in Cheam village today with David Cameron... trying to bribe people with blue Conservative balloons. But he was only really there for the photo op and left within a couple of minutes, followed by the "Vote For Change" bus. Exciting news, Paul really needs to bring Nick Clegg down too :)

  3. well i agree - Philippa isn't that bad - so in cheam we're lucky enough to have the choice between two people who would make good local MPs - except David Cameron would probable want Philippa in his cabinet, so it may mean she is less focussed on the constituency...

Would anyone know who Nick Clegg was, even if Paul did bring him to Cheam...?

  4. I admit, Philippa could be worse, but I honestly don't think she could live up to Paul Burstow's standards. After all, it is very well her saying she would be honest and wouldn't have claimed expenses, but Paul actually had the opportunity and didn't; we don't need to take his word for it because he has proved it. And again, she emphasises how clean her campaign is, but it's largely because Paul hasn't given her much to criticise.

Why should we risk changing our MP when we know already that the one we have does a great job? Especially when changing our MP might give us David Cameron...

  5. I agree. I don't think we should risk changing our MP when he's done such a good job! GO PAUL!!

However, I don't think a change of government would be a bad thing... Labour are a bit "tired" now, and I think it's about time for a change...
